In 2022 Keys Schools began working towards the Rainbow Flag Award, hoping to fly it proudly by February 2023. As part of our work we held our very own Keys Pride day in June 22 that included multi-site Pride celebrations, quest speakers, interactive challenges, competitions, a fabulous rainbow lunch & a special story reading by the Proud Trust.

	The Be You Project Resources for LGBTQ+ young people and their families, friends & carers.
	The Proud Trust Helpful information covering a range of different things such as coming out, faith and religion, and staying safe. You’ll also find stories and experiences from other LGBTQ+ people in the “People like me” section.
	Mermaids Mermaids works with young people who feel at odds with the gender they have been assigned. They also work with parents and carers of young people going through these feelings. As well as reading information on their website, you can also call the Mermaids helpline on 0344 334 0550 (Monday-Friday, 9am-9pm) if you’d prefer to talk to someone. Mermaids also operates an emergency text service – if you need help now, text ‘Mermaids’ to 85258.
	BDG Project Black Girl Dangerous is an online magazine by and for queer and trans people of colour. The site is a huge archive of opinion and advice articles.
	Banardos We support LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and those questioning their sexual or gender identity) children, young people and their families in the UK.
	FFLAG FFLAG are a national charity who are dedicated to supporting parents and their lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans children. As well as providing resources and information on their website, they also run a helpline (call 0845 652 0311 to speak to someone) and recommend books that can help parents and carers understand and properly support their LGBTQ+ child.
	Switchboard Since 1974 Switchboard has taken more than three million calls from people across the UK looking for a confidential and non-judgemental space – a safe space – to talk and feel supported.

Advice for teachers and school staff

Schools Out is the UK’s only national charity campaigning to make schools safe spaces for LGBTQ+ people as students, teaching and support staff, parents and carers and school leadership. They carry out research, education programmes and campaign for policy change.
