Mission/focus | As many pupils come to Moorlands View School missing several years of education we see it as important to focus specifically on raising Literacy and Numeracy attainment and provide indivualised programmes of study to facilitate this. Our classes operate on a small group basis as this builds up self-esteem and increases academic achievement enabling pupils to move on positively to reach their full potential. Pupils with specific literacy and numeracy difficulties receive one to one tuition. The school operates a specific Citizenship programme to help pupils with building positive social interactions and form positive relationships with other pupils and staff. |
Facilities | The school has ICT and Science suites, two main classrooms, a 1:1 education room, a DT Room, a Food Technology room, an Art room, a quiet room/library. In the middle of the school is a large school hall where sport and other activities can take place like music. The school has its own independent Educational Psychologist who visits every Tuesday. The school offers a curriculum of all national Curriculum subject but also includes subject such as General Studies, Preparation for Working Life, ASDAN. The school offers a range of qualifications which include Entry Level Certificates, GCSE, Level 1 and 2 qualifications. |
Special annual events | The school prides itself on its Christmas and summer shows. At Christmas there is our usual Pantomime with pupils and staff sharing the parts, this is then followed by the school’s rock band playing a set. All pupils like to be involved in both areas. At the Summer Open Day, pupils sell the items they have made in the previous weeks, most having their own stalls. Some of the pupils create games for the visitors to try and spend weeks previously devising and planning their activities. School has a rewards afternoon and within this staff try to give the pupils new experiences, these include cultural foods, celebrating achievement parties but also we learn that pupils skills like preparing and cooking fish, building electronic kits and learning how to use Apple Mac computers. |
