What it can look like

Every school’s support is shaped around its pupils. Here are three ways it can come together.

See all services
  • In school, but struggling

A Year 3 pupil who struggles to follow instructions

Attending every day, but falling behind in reading and getting frustrated in class. There’s no diagnosis, and the NHS wait for speech and language therapy is over a year.

    How we’d help

    • Mable Therapy Mable can support with assessment and 1:1 direct therapy, as well as flexible training for educators.
    • Autism 360 can assess too, if the picture suggests more than a communication need.
  • Struggling to attend

A Year 8 pupil whose attendance has dropped to 40%

Anxious about coming in, and missing more each week. Gaps in maths are widening, and the family and school want a way back.

    How we’d help

    • Keys Engage rebuilds trust and routine with a consistent adult, at home or in the community.
    • Keys Tuition keeps maths going 1:1, so the gap doesn’t widen while attendance improves.
  • Out of school

A Year 10 pupil permanently excluded in the autumn term

Suspected ADHD, and a full timetable isn’t realistic yet. They need to keep working towards their GCSEs while the next step is planned.

    How we’d help

    • Keys Alternative Learning builds a part-time timetable across online, outdoor and in-person learning.
    • ADHD360 assesses alongside, to help the young person take their next steps.

Case study · Keys Health One primary school · One school year
88% fewer recorded behaviour incidents over the pilot

The whole-school ADHD pilot

Every member of staff trained to understand ADHD, and fast assessment and treatment for the pupils who needed it, in one primary school. Here’s what happened.

19
referrals accepted from the school
17
children assessed for ADHD
All staff
trained in classroom adaptations
Every child
benefited from consistent strategies, not only those assessed

Why we ran it

NHS waits for ADHD assessment run to years, and staff were supporting pupils without a diagnosis or specialist training.

We wanted to see whether training and fast assessment together would change things for the whole school, not just the pupils referred.

What we did

We trained every member of staff, from teachers to support staff, to understand ADHD and adapt the classroom.

At the same time, ADHD360 assessed and treated the pupils the school referred. Across one school year, we accepted 19 referrals and assessed 17 children.

Having all staff involved has created a shared understanding of neurodiversity, and strategies are used consistently across the school.

— Staff member, pilot school

What happened

Recorded behaviour incidents fell by 88% over the pilot. Staff also saw changes in friendships, and in how pupils were in the classroom.

Staff noticed the pace as much as the result. “The programme has acted quickly from referral to diagnosis to treatment,” one told us. “It has helped them socially too.”

The result reflects training and assessment working together. Teachers told us the two can’t be separated, so we don’t claim either did it alone.

Asked what should happen next, one member of staff was clear: “I would strongly encourage it to be made available to as many schools as possible.”
