Bella's Experience

Bella entered care at the age of eight following a breakdown in her family circumstances. Throughout her childhood, she experienced significant change, which often left her feeling uncertain and needing reassurance from the people around her.

At School House, Bella formed positive relationships with staff and enjoyed the support they provided. However, she found it more difficult to connect with other young people and often spent her time with adults instead. Changes to routines and unexpected situations could feel overwhelming, and she sometimes struggled to manage the emotions that came with them.

Like many young people who have experienced instability, Bella wanted to feel safe, accepted and understood. Building trust took time, but it became an important foundation for everything that followed.

Bella's Support

When Bella moved to School House, the focus was on getting to know her as an individual, understanding what was important to her and helping her feel secure in her new home. Consistent relationships and daily encouragement helped Bella develop trust in the people around her and gave her the confidence to start exploring new opportunities.

As she settled, Bella began to spend more time pursuing interests she enjoyed, including rollerblading, attending concerts and taking part in activities in her local community. These experiences helped her meet new people and gradually build friendships with others her own age.

Alongside this, Bella developed the practical skills she would need for adult life. She became increasingly involved in planning meals, shopping, managing money and taking responsibility for everyday tasks around the home. Over time, the independence she developed in these areas gave her greater confidence in her ability to make decisions and manage day-to-day life.

One of the most significant changes was Bella's growing confidence in herself. As she became more comfortable expressing how she felt, she began to recognise that she did not have to face challenges alone. She found new ways to manage difficult moments and became more willing to seek support when she needed it.

Starting college opened up further opportunities for Bella to develop her independence and social networks. She attended regularly, achieving 90% attendance, and enjoyed spending time with friends both at college and within the community.

Another major milestone came when Bella secured a job at a local café. The role allowed her to build new skills, meet new people and gain valuable experience in the workplace. Most importantly, it gave her a sense of achievement and pride in how far she had come.

Looking Ahead

Bella's journey at School House was about more than developing practical skills or reaching milestones. It was about building confidence, developing meaningful relationships and discovering a sense of belonging.

Today, Bella has a strong network of friends, greater independence and a growing belief in her own potential. As she moves into the next stage of her life, she does so with the confidence, skills and support around her to continue building the future she wants for herself.
