Through a combination of structured education, therapeutic insight and connected support across care and health services, Keys SEND Schools help learners rebuild confidence, re-engage with education and make meaningful progress towards positive futures.

What are Keys SEND Schools?

Keys SEND Schools are specialist education settings designed for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) who require a more personalised and supportive learning environment.

Who are SEND Schools for?

Our schools support pupils whose needs cannot be met in mainstream education, including those with:

  • Social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs

  • Autism and ADHD

  • Learning difficulties

  • Complex needs linked to trauma or disrupted education

What makes Keys SEND Schools different?

Keys SEND Schools offer smaller class sizes, tailored teaching approaches and a strong focus on emotional wellbeing alongside academic progress. Learning is adapted to suit each pupil’s needs, communication style and readiness to engage.

What is the learning environment like?

Our schools provide structured, nurturing environments where pupils feel safe, understood and supported. This helps them rebuild confidence and re-engage with learning.

Do SEND Schools offer therapeutic support?

Yes. Our schools combine education with therapeutic thinking, supporting emotional regulation, relationship-building and overall wellbeing alongside academic development.

What specialist support is available?

Pupils can access support from clinical and therapeutic professionals, including psychologists, therapists and specialist practitioners, who work with education teams to support learning and wellbeing.

What is Connected Support in SEND Schools?

Connected Support links education with care and health services across Keys. This ensures that each child’s support is coordinated, consistent and informed by clinical insight.

How do SEND Schools link with other Keys services?

Our schools work closely with:

  • Keys Children’s Homes

  • Keys Inclusion Pathways (alternative provision and blended learning)

  • Keys Health (clinical assessments and therapy)

What are Inclusion Pathways?

Inclusion Pathways provide flexible education options, including alternative provision and blended learning, helping pupils engage at a level that suits their individual needs.

What happens after a pupil attends a SEND School?

Pupils are supported to move on to the next stage of their journey, which may include further education, training, employment or other appropriate pathways, with transitions carefully planned.

Who can refer a child or young person?

Referrals are typically made by local authorities, education professionals or social workers seeking specialist provision for a child with additional needs.

Why Keys

Independence, with the whole network behind it.

Moving toward independence works best when education, employment and clinical support move with the young person. Keys connects all three, so a young person stepping into their own space never steps away from the help that got them there.

  • Education

A form of EET for everyone, supported by AQA units and the Inclusion Pathways offer.

  • Health

Specialist clinical input on call to help manage risk and support staff.

With consistent support, he began to rebuild his routine and his confidence, and to imagine a future again.
